However, the coastal sand and unique regulations of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area require a completely different setup than the dry desert dirt of Arizona or Utah.
If you are loading up your trailer for Coos Bay, follow this definitive packing and vehicle preparation guide to ensure you stay legal, safe, and running flat-out all week long.
1. Strict Oregon Dune Regulations (Don't Get Fined)
Oregon State Parks and local law enforcement heavily enforce specific rules during the event week. Before you hit the sand, make sure you have these legal items locked down:

Oregon OHV Permit: Oregon honors out-of-state off-highway permits if your state has a reciprocal agreement. If your state doesn't, you must purchase a local Oregon ATV Permit online or at the gate.

The 9-Foot Red/Orange Flag: Your UTV must display a red or orange flag that sits at least 9 feet off the ground when the vehicle is stationary.

Fire Extinguisher: All side-by-sides operating on the Oregon Dunes must carry a securely mounted, functional fire extinguisher (minimum 2lb capacity).

Tire Plugging & Bead Reset Kits: Coastal sand can be tightly packed near the beach but incredibly soft in the bowls. If you aggressively drop your tire pressure down to 6–8 PSI to get traction on the steep faces, you run a high risk of popping a tire bead. Pack a small portable compressor and a heavy-duty ratchet strap to pop the bead back into place on the sand.

4-Point Harnesses: Ditch the stock automotive-style seatbelts. You must have a minimum 4-point or 5-point harness properly bolted to the chassis to race.

Get a Pre-Event Inspection: Before you make the long haul up to Oregon, inspect your shock bodies for leaking fluid. The abrasive nature of coastal sand mixed with salt air will rapidly destroy compromised seals, causing total nitrogen loss out in the middle of a group ride.
